All AC Wellness patients are eligible for health and wellness coaching services (“Coaching Services”) offered by qualified AC Wellness health coaches (the “Health Coaches”). Please see below for important information about the Coaching Services and the Health Coaches.

Alternative or Complementary Services Not Licensed by State of California

o   The Health Coaches are not licensed physicians, and do not diagnose, treat, operate for, or prescribe for any ailment, disease, disorder, injury, or other physical or mental condition of any person.

o   The Coaching Services are not licensed by the State of California; they are intended to be complementary to healing arts services licensed by the State of California.

Theory of Treatment and Nature of Coaching Services

o   The Health Coach is intended to be a stable, supportive health partner, providing the coaching participant with regular accountability, motivation, education, and guidance to help them achieve their self-determined health and wellness goals through sustainable behavior change.

o   The Health Coaches help participants to identify goals related to health and wellness, including in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, stress, sleep, and mental wellness, and support participants in mobilizing internal strengths and external resources to achieve those goals through sustainable behavior change.

o   In the course of their work, the Health Coaches display unconditional positive regard for the participants and a belief in their capacity for change, honoring the fact that each participant is an expert on their life and ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental.

o   Participants meet with their assigned Health Coach for regular, scheduled visits. During these visits, the Health Coach uses a thoughtful and strategic combination of health education, health coaching, and behavioral support to help participants overcome barriers such as knowledge gaps, harmful attitudes, environmental constraints, and skill deficits that hinder their potential for improved health and quality of life.

Qualifications and Experience

o   All Health Coaches have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience in health education, health promotion, public health, exercise physiology, nutrition or a related field.

  • Thorough knowledge of health behavior and adult learning theories and their application.

  • Demonstrated experience in nutrition, physical activity, and chronic disease education.

o   In addition, Health Coaches are encouraged to maintain certification from an accredited health coaching program and/or the National Board Certification for Health & Wellness Coaching.
